A Participatory nordic ritual experience
inspired by Finnish incantation tradition

Guided shared experiences for hotels, retreats, events, and teams
combining voice, atmosphere, storytelling, and participation into
something guests continue talking about long after it ends.

Participants do not simply watch. They take part.

What is Spell of the North?

Spell of the North is a participatory cultural experience inspired by Finnish incantation and oral poetry traditions.

Participants are guided into a shared ritual atmosphere using spoken words, rhythm, repetition, voice, and group participation. During the experience, participants create short personal or collective incantations and speak them aloud together as part of the group experience.

The experience is guided step by step and designed to feel approachable even for people with no prior experience in performance, folklore, or ritual traditions.

This is not a lecture people sit through. This is not passive entertainment. This is not a wellness class, nor a performance for people to watch. This is a guided experience people step into together.

  • create short incantations

About

Spell of the North was created by Johanna Matero, a Finland-based communication and marketing professional, and experiential facilitator with a background in storytelling and cultural interpretation.

The experience brings together long-standing interests in language, oral tradition, participation and the cultural history of spoken words. In Finnish incantation tradition, words were not decorative. They were used intentionally, collectively, and as part of everyday life.

Spell of the North brings elements of this tradition into contemporary participatory format for hospitality, events, and groups. Rather than presenting folklore as distant history or staged performance, the experience invites people to actively use voice, rhythm, repetition, and spoken language together. And to reconnect, briefly, with the weight and presence words can carry.
